In the past year I decided to build a XC mtb from the frame up, and I knew it might take a while given my budget. Patience and time were the only obstacles in my way.
First Things First: Get The Frame:
The first thing I needed was good frame that would ultimately dictate the outcome of my new obsession. One day while cruising eBay for quality, light-weight, cheap mtb frames, I came across the Leader LD 510H that is constructed with 7005 T6 butted aluminum. I was surprised at the low price, $109. Wow! I was surprised at the weight as well. I got the 19” weighing in at a feathery 3lbs, nine onces. Oh yeah, did I mention how sweet this puppy looks. They come in three colors, gloss red, gloss white, and matte black; I got the black one.
Leaders Frames Look Good. How Do They Work?
I was initially worried about how good the decals would look seeing that there is no shortage of them. No worries, the Leader LD 510H decal looks great. I finished the bike at the end of May and almost a thousand miles later, including a 12 mile and a 50 mile race of what might as well been Hell as far as I’m concerned, the frame has performed beautifully. I get compliments and questions about the frame all the time; not many people have heard it, and I’m quite proud of how it turned out. I think any of you would as well. If you think this frame is right for you, keep in mind that the head tube takes a zero stack headset, which can be hard to find in local stores at times. If you’re not familiar with this type of headset, have no worries; it has a cleaner more finished look that streamlines the frame even more. These zero stack headsets can be purchased on eBay as well. I hope this helps. If you’re looking for a quality frame at a low price the Leader LD 510H will not disappoint you.
